Hanover, PA (04/9/10) –Dale Hammaker took no prisoners in scoring his first win of the year in the 25-lap 358 sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.

The Grantville driver known as “the Godfather” of the 358 sprint division started third and drove under polesitter Tim Wagaman for the race lead on the second lap.

After that, only opening night winner Brad McClelland could stay close. McClelland started eighth, advanced to third by the fifth lap, and grabbed second from Wagaman on lap 19.

A caution for a spinning George Streaker on the last lap gave McClelland one last chance, but Hammaker was up to challenge, holding off the B&D Truck Hoist #6 for his third career Trail-Way win.

“I love Trail_way! Last week I didn’t love Trail-Way,” deadpanned Hammaker in victory lane, “But normally I love Trail-Way.”

“Jeff (Rohrbaugh) got into me when I was getting lapped last week,” continued Hammaker, referring to the double-flip involving both him and Rohrbaugh, “You gotta run so hard here. There are so many good drivers. Jeff, Brad, Tim…Tim’s going to win a race soon…”

Wagaman was able to hang on for third, with Brian Bruckner and 12-starting Joe Trone, Jr. completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Keith Prutzman, Logan Schuchart, Troy Becker, Randy Davis, Jr., and Zach Euculano.

Billy Dietrich was uninjured when he broke a rear axle and flipped while running fourth on lap 14.

Three-time track champ Jeff Rohrbaugh lost a motor in his heat and was unable to start the feature.

Heats for the 23 “358” sprinters on hand were won by Wagaman, McClelland, and Randy Whisler.
