The 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic at Waynesfield Raceway Park doesn’t take place until Saturday August 7th, but the road begins in Gas City, Indiana this Friday night May 28th when the powerful Non Wing Sprints hit the semi banked clay oval at Gas City I-69 Speedway.

The 8 race series sponsored by Hoosier Tire, culminating with the 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic was originally scheduled to begin on Friday April 23rd at Gas City, but Mother Nature had other plans, washing out the first three races at Gas City, Waynesfield and Eldora Speedway. Gas City has rescheduled their $1500 to win Hewitt Series opener for this Friday May 28th, while Waynesfield will run their rescheduled $1500 to win event on Saturday June 5th. Eldora’s opening event has not been rescheduled at this time.

The road to the 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic takes an interesting turn beginning with a $1500 to win event at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday July 3rd, with the Lee’s Hydraulics Non Wing Sprints feature winner gaining a guaranteed starting spot in the A Main for the Hewitt Classic, provided he or she makes a regular attempt at making the show on August 7th at WRP. The same stipulation applies to the $1500 to win Non Wing Sprint A Main at Gas City/I-69 Speedway on Friday July 30th, as well as the $2000 to win Non Wing Sprint event at Eldora Speedway on Saturday July 31st, and the $2500 to win Non Wing Sprint Feature at Millstream Speedway in Findlay Ohio on Sunday August 1st.

This all leads up to the $4000 to win 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday August 7th. Last year’s Hewitt Classic came down to a last lap slide job by Jon Stanbrough that just barely went awry allowing Ludlow Falls, Ohio driver Matt Westfall pick up the win in Stan Cortad’s 9x. Will Westfall repeat as champion of the race honoring one of the greatest racers of all time, or will it be one of the many drivers who like so many, grew up watching Jack Hewitt wheel his way to hundreds of victories. The only way to find out is to follow the “Road to the Hewitt Classic” beginning this Friday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City Indiana.
