TULSA, Okla. (June 28, 2010) – The American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region embarks upon new territory this Fourth of July weekend with a wingless double at New Mexico’s Aztec Speedway on Friday and Saturday.
This weekend’s action marks the first time for the wingless forces of the ASCS Canyon Region to tackle the 1/3-mile Aztec Speedway clay oval and just the second series’ venture into the Land of Enchantment.
Reigning series champion Charles Davis, Jr., of Buckeye, AZ, leads the way into the weekend after snaring his fourth win of the season this past weekend, extending his championship points lead to 79 markers over Peoria’s Josh Pelkey.
Pelkey is just 17 markers ahead of two-time ASCS Canyon Region champ Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ, with Yuma’s Mike Martin just another seven points back in fourth.
Gilbert’s Andrew Reinbold has cracked the top five, with the balance of the current top ten in ASCS Canyon Region points including Stevie Sussex (Laveen), R.J. Johnson (Phoenix), Ronnie Clark (Tucson), Brian Hosford (Gilbert) and Dalten Gabbard (Peoria).
Action fires off at 7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night at Aztec Speedway.

The ASCS Canyon Region is currently slated for 17 overall nights of competition in 2010, including 13 nights in Arizona, a two-night Fourth of July weekend in New Mexico and pair of trips to California’s Perris Auto Speedway.
