WESTERN MIDGETS GEAR UP FOR JULY 17 STOCKTON RACE

From Dick Jordan

Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. continues to lead the 2010 USAC Mopar Western Midget Series points after a heartbreaking second-place finish Saturday night at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway. He holds a 24-point cushion over Alex Schutte entering a July 17 race at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.

Josh Lakatos of Portland, Ore. led the last four laps of Saturday night’s 30-lap race at Bakersfield to take the victory. Kruseman appeared headed for the win before tire woes relegated him to second place after leading the first 26 laps. Kody Swanson, fast qualifier Shannon McQueen and Chris Ennis rounded out the “top-five” at the checkered flag.

Chad Nichols won at Stockton May 1, a race in which Schutte and Kruseman finished fourth and 10th respectively.
