Hess increases point lead with Beaver Dam win

Beaver Dam, Wis., July 3— Series points leader Mike Hess won The Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Racing Series 30-lap feature Saturday Night at Beaver Dam Raceway. Hess is the ninth different driver to win a feature event this season in nine races.

Travis Berryhill paced the intinal two laps, before Hess took the lead. Once in the lead Hess began increasing his lead each lap .Matt Smith moved into second place on Lap 10, and trailed Hess by a straightaway at the midway point. Three laps later Berryhill running in fourth position hit the Turn 2 wall and flipped three times, escaping injury.

On the restart Smith stayed with Hess for a few laps, before Hess pulled away to a comfortable margain. Hess driving the Jerry Hardy owned Buzzard/Hawk Chevrolet No. 4 finished 2.7 seconds ahead of Smith, Scott Hatton,Courtney Erfurth and Bob Shreffler. Hess now holds a 90-point lead over Hatton heading ino the July 17 event at Beaver Dam Raceway.
