ATTICA, Ohio – Dean Jacobs had a new power plant under the hood of his Joe and Diane Seeling owned sprint car and it ran to perfection as the Wooster, Ohio driver took the 410 sprint win at Attica Raceway Park on Edward Jones Financial Services of Clyde Night.
The Fremont Fence 305 Sprints also had a make-up feature from July 23 and the night’s regular A-main. In the make-up event, Fredericksburg, Ohio’s Brad Haudenschild scored his second career win at Attica, while Fremont, Ohio’s Zack Kramer earned his first career Attica win in the night’s regular A-main.
In the 30-lap A-main for the 410 sprints, Jacobs led the entire distance for his ninth career Attica victory.
“Joe and Diane give us everything we need and we’re having fun. They bought us a new Griff’s Engine tonight and it’s a stout piece and I think it can get us into the A-main of the Knoxville Nationals,” said Jacobs beside his Northwest Ohio Towing and Recovery, NAPA Truck and Auto Center backed #97. “I felt lucky coming into the night and we pulled a good pill for the heat and a #1 for the feature.”
In the make-up A-main for the 305 sprints, Haudenschild drove his R&B Enterprises sprinter all over the track, slicing and dicing through lapped traffic to lead all 25 laps for the victory.
“I had to win…mom and dad are usually on their way to Knoxville and they stayed back so we could race,” said Haudenschild beside his Vision Express, Gressman Powersports backed #10.
In the night’s regular 305 sprint A-main, Zack Kramer held off Paul Weaver on a last lap restart to lead all 25 laps for the win.
“That’s probably the best I’ve ever driven in traffic. I was glad that yellow came out for a clear track but then I look on the scoreboard and see that 1W (Weaver) behind me and I knew he’d be pushing me on the restart. We’re finally getting this car figures out,” said Kramer beside his Fremont Fence, Kear’s Speed Shop, Jerry Zamora Roofing and Siding, B&L Plumbing backed #8k.
In the 410 sprint feature Jacobs would grab the early lead with Cody Kinser, last week’s winner Rob Chaney, rookie Shawn Valenti, Mark Keegan and Mike Linder in tow. Kinser’s run would end a lap later with a spin, moving Chaney into second. The driver on the move was Phil Gressman as he charged from 11th to 7th in just two laps. On the restart Jacobs went to the top with Chaney right on his rear bumper with Valenti battling Keegan and Gressman for third. Action would grind to a halt on lap five when Travis Philo took a nasty ride in turn three.
On the restart, Jacobs would pull away from Chaney with Keegan stealing third and Valenti and Gressman in tow. Jacobs would hit lapped traffic by the 12th circuit with the running order up front remaining unchanged. Craig Mintz would tumble off turn two on lap 17 to bring out the red with the running order Jacobs, Chaney, Keegan, Valenti, Gressman, Linder, Byron Reed, Brandon Martin, Caleb Griffith and Kevin Lee.
On the restart the field would only get another lap in when the caution flew for a Ryan Myers spin. On the restart Duane Zablocki would crash off turn one. Each time on the restart Jacobs would pull away, but as the laps ticked off Chaney would begin to reel him in. Just as Chaney got to Jacobs’ rear bumper, the caution would fly on lap 26 for an Aaron Middaugh spin.
With four laps remaining and a clear track, Jacobs would power away from Chaney while Gressman would slide under Keegan into third, with Martin moving into fifth and Reed to sixth. Jacobs would blast to the checkered over Chaney, Gressman, Keegan and Martin.
“Once I got out there I tried to be a little conservative and hit my marks. If Rob would have gotten to me I had something left,” said Jacobs about his Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title (FAST) Championship Series victory.
In the make-up late model feature, the race would resume on lap 8 with Missler leading Devin Schiels, Babock, Drown, Rocky Owens and Ken Hahn. Missler could not shake Schiels as Drown moved into third to challenge. The caution would fly on lap 9 for a Michael Stiltner spin and on the ensuing restart it was a tremendous three car battle for the lead between Missler, Schiels and Drown. That running order would remain the same until lap 14 when Drown drove around Schiels with Babcock sitting in fourth and Owens in fifth.
Missler would hit the back of the field by lap 16 as Drown attempted to close and Babcock moved into third. Following a caution for debris on lap 17, the race would go green the remaining eight laps. Missler just could not shake Drown who continually raced to his inside. Missler would hit his marks perfectly and would run to the checkered flag over Drown, Babcock, Ken Hahn and Dan Wallace.
In the night’s regular late model feature, following two cautions to try and get the first lap in for Mike Bores and Matt Irey, Babock would jump into the lead with Chris Keller, Missler, Keith Berner, Ernie Haynes, Hahn, Tom Ordway and Schroyer in tow. Babcock would pull away to a commanding lead with Keller, Missler, Berner, Haynes, Hahn, Schroyer and Drown battling hard for second. A caution on lap five for a Stiltner spin would wipe out Babcock’s huge lead. However, it didn’t take him long to pull away again once the green came back out while Keller, Missler, Berner, and Schroyer continued to battle hard for second.
At the halfway mark of the race, Babcock had a 12 car length advantage over Keller who was battling Missler, Schroyer, Berner and Rick DeLong. Babcock caught the rear of the field on lap 16 but it would not slow his pace as Missler now challenged Keller for second. With seven laps remaining and Babcock on cruise control, things really heated up for second between Keller, Missler, Schroyer and Drown. The race would continue that way until five laps remaining when Schroyer would drive under Missler into third and past Keller for the runner-up spot a lap later.
Meanwhile Babcock continued to pull away until a caution for Stiltner spin on the white-flag lap would bunch up the field. As the white and green flew, Babcock went right back to the top shelf of the track to pull away for the win with Schroyer, Keller, Drown and Missler rounding out the top five.
In the make-up feature for the 305 sprints, Haudenschild would blast into the lead with Paige Polyak, Dustin Dinan, Brad Bowman, Jimmy Colvin and John Ivy in tow. Haudenschild set a torrid pace, encountering lapped traffic by the eighth circuit, allowing Polyak to close. By lap 10, Haudenschild had cleared traffic and began to pull away as Polyak was comfortably in second with Dinan and Jimmy Colvin racing hard for third. The first caution would fly with five laps remaining for a Steve Rando spin with the running order Haudenschild, Polyak, Colvin, Dinan, Bowman, D.J. Foos, John Ivy and Paul Weaver. A lap and another caution for Weaver who spun in turn two.
With a clear track, Haudenschild would pull away on the ensuing restart as Polyak had her hands full with Colvin. As the white flew, Nate Dussel made hard contact with the front stretch wall, bringing out the red. As the white and green flew on the restart, Haudenschild would pull away for the win with Colvin nipping Polyak for second and Dinan and Bowman rounding out the top five.
In the night’s regular A-main for the 305 sprints, Kramer would take the early lead as John Ivy, Benny Bowman, Jason Keckler, Polyak, Weaver, Jake Trevino and Stuart Brubaker gave chase. Keckler would take third on lap two with Polyak into fourth and Weaver fifth. Polyak would drive into third a lap later as the caution flew for a Colvin spin. On the restart Polyak would drive around Ivy into second with Weaver right behind their rear bumpers in fourth. Kramer would blast around the outside of the track as Polyak, Ivy, Weaver, Brubaker and Keckler would follow. The caution would fly on lap 10 when Nate Dussel stopped trying to get off the track.
Again, with a clear track, Kramer would blast away from the field with Polyak, Weaver, Brubaker and Ivy battling for second. Ivy would spin on lap 14 with the running order Kramer, Polyak, Weaver, Brubaker, Trevino, Foos, Bowman and Keckler. On lap 19, Weaver would drive under Polyak for second. Kramer would encounter lapped traffic on lap 21, allowing Weaver to close as Polyak battled Brubaker, Trevino, Foos and a closing Bobby Clark. The final caution flew on lap 23 for Brad Bowman.
Kramer was just too strong on the restart as he powered away to the win with Weaver, Polyak, Brubaker and Trevino rounding out the top five.
Attica Raceway Park will take next weekend off for the annual fair and will return for Saturday racing the last three events of the season beginning Aug. 21 with the 410 sprints, late models, 305 sprints and dirt trucks in action.
