KOKOMO, Ind. (August 8, 2010) – Dustin Daggett completed the weekend sweep of three feature events by winning the “A” Feature Sunday night at Kokomo Speedway. Daggett started on the poll and led every lap in route to his fifth victory in a row in ASCS SOD competition.
“This is great, long weekend, I’m ready to take a nap,” said Daggett in victory lane. “(Kokomo) is a fun race track, I wish we could run here again this year. I have to thanks Phil and Marty Mott, Ken Love, my Dad, and my Uncle of all of their help on the car.”
Daggett got the jump at the start and pulled away to a full straightaway lead while outside front row starter Jared Horstman tried to keep pace while holding off repeated challenges from Ben Rutan.
With six laps complete a scary incident occurred when Gavin Hunyady got into the wall in turn two and flipped into the catch fence. While Hunyady was stuck in the fence his car caught fire. The Kokomo Speedway safety crew quickly extinguished the fire and Hunyady exited the car under his own power.
After the cleanup from the accident Horstman kept Daggett in sight, but never got close enough to make a serious challenge. Rutan, Dain Naida, and Kent Wolters rounded out the top five.
Daggett and Rutan won the two qualifying heat races, Rutan also claimed the victory in the fast car dash.
It was an eventful night for the championship contenders as Gregg Dalman had to drive Don Smith’s car after Dalman’s car would not fire before the racing program began. Then during the dash Ryan Grubaugh’s car suffered a driveline failure that caused him to not start the feature event.
