A pleasing podium result in last Saturday night’s King of Wings event at the Perth Motorplex has seen a continuation of Ben Ellement’s good form and it has also moved him closer to the top of the AHG Sprintcar Series leader board.
So far this season Ellement has recorded a second in the opening round of the AHG Series at the Perth Motorplex, a fifth in the opening round of the Southern Thunder Series at Collie Speedway, a car destroying DNF at the Perth Motorplex, a sixth in the Western Australian Title at Bunbury City Speedway and then a third place finish in the King of Wings event at the Perth Motorplex and these results currently have him sitting just a handful of points off the lead in the AHG Series.
“We’ve had a good few decent runs, a few ok ones and a really bad one,” reflected Ellement. “We started the season with last season’s car and in only our third show we ended up destroying it in the feature race in a nasty crash, so it’s been quite a mixed bag of results, but most importantly we’ve been able to consistently pick up points.”
The main goal of Ellement and his team in the 2010/11 season has been to reclaim the AHG Series after having held it previously back in the 2007/08 season.
“I want that AHG Series back and I know we have the package and the team, to do it,” the Perth based hard charger stated. “Our new car has been working very nicely after only a couple of runs and there is no doubt that it will only get better and that is certainly going to help us in our quest to get back the AHG Series.”
Ellement is currently placed second in the point standings behind leader Mark Wells by only a five point margin.
The event for Ellement will be Boxing Night, December 26, at Bunbury City Speedway for the second round of the Southern Thunder Series.
