Continuing on with his recent run of good form, Grant Anderson achieved his best result of the 2010/11 season after he last Saturday night at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC) finished the fourth round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series in second place.
Throughout the feature race Anderson was locked in a tight battle with eventual winner Mike Van Bremen, but in the end the latter was able to hold him out and despite missing out on the winning spoils, a second place was still a satisfying result. After he had started out of position two in the feature race, Anderson was out jumped by pole sitter Rod Matthews at the start and when the pair washed up on the opening lap it allowed Van Bremen to move into the lead.
“We had a pretty strong car in the feature race, but we just didn’t have enough to take control of the lead,” admitted Anderson, who had momentarily taken the lead away from Van Bremen early on in the feature race only to have the latter fight his way back into the lead. “In traffic we were a bit faster than [Mike] Van Bremen and I felt confident that we had something for him. There were a few caution periods that didn’t work in my favour, as in clean air Van Bremen had solid speed and we then lost any sort of advantage that we felt we had.”
Anderson, aboard the VIC # 37 Wagga Mobiles Cranes & Heavy Haulage / Cabworx Cabinet Makers supported Foster, showed good speed earlier in the night. In the opening heat race he made the most of his pole position start to take out a convincing victory, while in the second heat he had to come from position eight in the field and then impressively worked his way up to finish in third place. Those two results earnt Anderson the honour of being the second highest point scorer and he started the feature race out of position two.
This Saturday night (December 18) Anderson will make his first appearance of the season at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway for the running of the annual Fireball Derby and it is also going to be the fifth round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series.
