(Gardena, CA, April 5, 2011) After another impressive performance in the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway last Saturday night, Greg Alexander will head to the scene of his biggest lifetime career win to date, Santa Maria Speedway, this Saturday night for the USAC West Coast 360 Series race. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM with qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 6:00. (Media please note, a photo of Greg Alexander is attached to this release. Last week Alexander’s first race was supposed to be the makeup of the rained out March 18th main event at Giant Chevrolet King’s Speedway in Hanford. However, wet conditions forced cancellation of the event again and Alexander set his focus on the Amsoil USAC/CRA race at Perris.
Once again, the talented 21-year-old dazzled The PAS fans with fifth fastest qualifying time in the 21 car field. He then brought them to their feet in a true “Davey vs Goliath” battle to win the second 10-lap heat race of the night.
Quickly becoming a fan favorite of The PAS fans, Alexander politely answered questions from long time Southern California racing personality Chris Holt before the start of the 30-lap A main. The impressive qualifying time and heat race triumph placed the Bellegante #23 on the outside of the fourth row for the start of the main.
Coming off turn two on the first lap of the main event, Alexander slid wide and lost six positions back to tenth. However, it was only lap one and it did not faze the Gardena based driver. One by one, he picked off some of the top stars in the series and clawed his way back to fourth. He eventually settled into a battle for fifth and would have finished no worse than sixth, but a lapped car did not move for Alexander and the car he was battling for fifth in turn four on the last lap and they all got together and slid to a stop. Alexander ended up getting credit for 10th.
Despite only participating in two of the first three Amsoil USAC/CRA races this year, Alexander is 12th in points and would have ranked higher if not for the last lap turn tangle.
Saturday’s race at Santa Maria will be at a track very familiar to Alexander. His first ever Sprint Car start was there on June 2, 2007 and on August 8, 2009, he recorded his biggest win to date when he captured the 360 Grand Slam Series main event. This Saturday he will be wheeling the Tyler Motorsports owned, Trench Shoring, Barnes Systems, Sander Engineering, Tyler Pool Service and Tyler Family Farms #72. Heading into the race, he is second in USAC Wes Coast 360 points a mere 7-points out of the lead.
Alexander’s John Bellegante owned #23 is sponsored by Barnes Systems, Amsoil, Persall Masonry, and Scott’s Headers and Mufflers.
