TUCSON, Ariz. (May 28, 2011) – Jeremy Sherman continued his strong Sunoco Fuel ASCS Canyon Region 2011 campaign by topping Saturday’s opening night of USA Raceway’s Inaugural Salute to Indy.
Starting from the pole position, Sherman gunned into the lead at the outset and paced all 30 non-stop circuits around the 3/8-mile clay oval as he lapped all the way up to fifth to collect his fourth series win of the year aboard the No. 21 Ellis entry.
Sherman posted his 32nd career ASCS Canyon score ahead of 16-year-old New Mexico shoe Joshua Hodges, who recorded his top career finish to date among the wingless Canyon Region ranks by taking runner-up honors.
Tenth-starter R.J. Johnson made a last-lap move around Charles Davis, Jr., to claim the show position behind Sherman and Hodges, with Josh Pelkey the final car on the lead lap in fifth.
Nathan High was sixth, with Chris Bonneau, Ryan Linder, Matt Rossi and Andrew Reinbold completing the top ten.
High, Mike Martin and Ronnie Clark topped Saturday night’s heat races.
The Sunoco Fuel ASCS Canyon Region returns to USA Raceway on Sunday for night two of the track’s Inaugural Salute to Indy with racing action going green at 6:45 p.m.
