June 15, 2011 (Sarver, PA) This Friday, June 17 is one of the biggest nights of the season for all divisions of Fab Four Racing as the Mid-Season Championships return for the third consecutive season. In a new twist to an old tradition, the Mid-Season Championships returned in 2009 with track provisionals on the line for all divisions of Fab Four Racing. The intent was to add some extra incentive to winning the feature that night and boy did it ever! The Precise Late Model feature that night is widely regarded as one of the wildest and most controversial races in the 40+ history of Fab Four Racing!
With a track provisional on the line for the 3rd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com, Alex Ferree and John Flinner were engaged in a classic battle for the lead for 15 laps until Flinner nailed a slider through three & four to take the lead on lap16. Jared Miley made it a three car battle for the lead as they navigated through lapped traffic. By lap 19, Miley was challenging Flinner for the lead and as they entered turn three coming to the checkered flag, Miley tried a kamikaze slide job, hit the inside ridge of the track and shot up the hill into turn floor, bicycling on two wheels and almost flipping onto Flinner. Miley sustained heavy damage and brought out the red flag. Flinner continued, but sustained heavy damage for the restart.
When the green flag came back out, Ferree and Flinner were side-by-side on the front row again and after drag racing down the front straightaway, they got together in turns one and two and both spun. Thankfully, the caution had already waved for a separate accident at the back of the pack and the retained their front row starting positions. On the ensuing restart, Flinner took the lead free and clear of Ferree, but Gregg Satterlee soon entered the picture. Satterlee tried to slide under Flinner in three & four, but Flinner maintained the lead at the white flag.
As they approached the checkered flag, Satterlee again threw the slider on through three & four, this time pulling alongside Flinner as they crossed the flagstand in a dead heat. AMB Electronic scoring showed Satterlee the winner by a scant 0.025 seconds; but the action still wasn’t over. As they continued down the front straightaway after the checkered flag, Flinner and Satterlee made heavy contact that sent Satterlee spinning into the infield jersey barriers. As his car was headed towards the pits on the business end of a tow truck, Satterlee walked to Sheetz Victory Lane with a track provisional in hand for the 3rd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com!
That same level of excitement will permeate this Friday Night’s Fab Four Racing Mid-Season Championships on Ron Lewis Auto Night. In addition to the Firecracker 100 provisional for the winner of the Precise Late Model feature, the winner of the Ti22 Sprint feature will secure a track provisional for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XX, the winner of the Diehl Mod feature will have a guaranteed starting spot for the BRP Mod Tour Finale during the DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede and the winner of the Pic-A-Part Sportsman feature will be locked into the Sportsman/Stock Spectacular during Autumn-Motive Fest 2011. Despite the increased incentive and excitement, there will be no increase in admission prices!
The format will be similar to every other Fast Friday of Fab Four Racing with heat races and features for all divisions, but the feature redraw will pertain to the top 12 in Budweiser points instead of the top 12 finishers in heat race competition. The top 12 in Bud points from each division will be eligible for the first 12 starting positions in the feature. The points leader draws his/her starting position first, followed by second place in points, etc until the front six rows are filled. The remaining starting positions will be filled by normal lineup procedures.
