Granger, IA—June 29, 2011—Kraig Kinser took an immediate liking to Dodge City Raceway Park the first time he competed at the high-banked 3/8-mile during the inaugural World of Outlaws event at the state-of-the-art facility in 2004. He finished fourth in that race and has had a fair amount of success at the track located in southwest Kansas over the years, as he chases his first win at the track.
The third generation driver will have two chances to do battle at Dodge City Raceway Park this weekend aboard the Casey’s General Store Maxim, as the World of Outlaws make their yearly visit to the venue on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 for the annual Boot Hill Showdown.
Last season Kinser finished seventh in the finale of the Boot Hill Showdown. He has made eight career starts at Dodge City, picking up four Top-10 finishes along the way, with his fourth-place effort in 2004 the best of the lot. The native of Bloomington, Ind. has finished among the Top-10 in three of his last five starts at the track.
Kraig rallied to finish 11th last weekend at Princeton Speedway in Minnesota, after losing the power steering on his machine and being forced to the work area, picking up four spots over the final six laps. Kinser opened the night at the ¼-mile bullring by turning the fifth-fastest lap in time trials. He finished second in the second heat race to earn a spot in the dash, where he finished eighth to earn a fourth row starting position in the 40-lap main event.
Kinser enter the pair of events this weekend 10th in the World of Outlaws championship standings on the strength of nine Top-10 and two Top-Five finishes.
Kraig on Dodge City Raceway Park:
“Dodge City is a beautiful facility and the track is usually pretty racy. It seems to always be pretty hot when we go there, so you have to set up for that and as a driver, you have to make sure you stay hydrated all day so that you are ready each night to battle for 35 good laps. We were pretty good last weekend and just had some bad luck with the power steering and having to go to the work area. It looks like we’ll be able to get both races in this weekend and that has been the biggest challenge this year, battling the weather, while trying to get into a rhythm.”
