TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2011) – Triple-digit heat ensures plenty of hot on-track action as The Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region takes on a pair of Texas dirt tracks this weekend.
On Friday night, the ASCS Lone Star Region takes to Boyd Raceway in Boyd, TX. Then, on Saturday night, it’s on to Abilene Speedway in Abilene, TX. It marks the lone stop of the season at both ¼-mile ovals, with Friday’s card a makeup of the event rained out on May 20.
Despite running afoul of lapped traffic while leading Saturday night’s Regional clash versus the ASCS Sooner Region at Lawton, Matt Covington of Glenpool, OK, still holds down The Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star points lead.
Covington enters this weekend’s double with a 72-point advantage over defending series champion Eric Baldaccini of Keller, TX. Baldaccini slipped back around Godley, TX, shoe Claud Estes for second in points over the weekend. Estes is just nine points back in third.
The Mesquite, TX, duo of Michael Lang and Martin Edwards are close behind in fourth and fifth, with the rest of the top ten including Justin Melton (Flower Mound), John Ricketts (Burleson), Robert Byrom (Fort Worth), Evan Pardo (Gatesville) and Dale Wester (Red Oak).
Baldaccini has reached victory lane at Boyd Raceway over each of the past two years, while Saturday’s card at Abilene Speedway marks the first series event there since Jerry Bell won in 2009 with last year’s event rained out.
Friday’s racing action at Boyd Raceway is set to go green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday’s tilt at Abilene Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m.
