The strong finish to the 2011/12 season for Danny Reidy continued during last Saturday night’s Queensland Sprintcar Title at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway. However, at the conclusion of the night he was, unfortunately, left empty handed.
During the opening 10 laps of the Queensland Title deciding feature race, Reidy, who had started from the front row by virtue of a second place in the pole shootout, but due to suffering front end failure he crashed out.
“We had something let go in the front row and it brought our winning hopes undone,” explained Reidy, who was sitting in second and threatening leader and eventual winner Cameron Gessner at the time of the front end failure. “I felt that we had a good enough car to win and had the same pace as Camo [Cameron Gessner]. As disappointing as it is, it’s just the nature of the sport.”
Reidy’s Queensland Title began in solid fashion by setting the second fastest time in qualifying. Due to a strong qualifying performance, he was forced to start from the back of his three heat races. In the opening heat race, Reidy collided with a backmarker, which deflated his left front tyre, and forced him to roll around on the low line and was soon after shown the mechanical black flag. The second heat race resulted in him working his way up to finish in sixth, and then in the third and final heat race he went on to record a second. Despite a tough opening heat race run, Reidy was the third highest point scorer heading into the pole shootout, and finished second.
This Saturday night (April 28) Reidy returns to Archerfield Speedway for the latest round of the KRE Series.
