Big Holiday Weekend On Tap For Marques Huffer During ASCS Sprints On Dirt Three-Race Weekend

By Matt Pruier

Eagle, Michigan (Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012): A pivotal weekend in the chase for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints On Dirt Presented by ARP Championship title chase will feature three races in three consecutive days over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend. Marques Huffer knows that the outcomes of these three events could very well determine his chances at capturing the 2012 SOD Sprints title.

“We need to do well this weekend, if we don’t, there’s a good chance that a couple of bad finishes will take us out of title contention or even finishing in the top five in points,” Huffer explained as he and his Huffer Racing Team continue preparations for the three-day weekend in the state of Ohio. “I have faith in my team and myself that we’ll snap out of this recent string of bad luck and start contending.”

The Holiday Weekend for the ASCS Sprints On Dirt tripleheader that will also count in the NRA Sprint Invaders title chase, begins on Friday, May 25th at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio. Then on Saturday, May 26th it’s on to Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio before closing out the weekend on Sunday, May 27th at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

In the Eagle, Michigan drivers’ last race on May 19th, the team headed back down to the 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked dirt oval of Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Michigan for a weekly 410 Sprints showdown and it was an adventurous day to say the least for the recently turned 34-year-old. “It was a bust!” Huffer matter of factly stated.

“In the first turn of our Heat Race we got into a head on collision with another sprint car that had gotten turned around. I had someone on both sides of me and there was nowhere to go, but up and over.” He explained. “Thankfully even though the car was airborne, it landed and stayed on all four wheels. There were some great guys like Andy Simon who helped get us out for the B Main then the Feature.”

Huffer was hoping the car was repaired enough for a good run in the Feature, however luck would not be on his side once again; “Because of the damage in the Heat Race, the front shock/wing mount busted off of the car on the first lap of the Feature and after about 10 laps into the race, it had just gotten to the point where it was too unsafe to drive, so we pulled off. We owe a special thank you to several people such as Ben Rutan, Aaron Huff and Mike Williams (amongst others) who are trying to help us make lemonade out of the lemons that we have been dealt so far in 2012.”

For the rest of the 2012 racing season, Huffer Racing will continue his run at the ASCS Sprints On Dirt Series Championship as well as the NRA Sprint Invaders title. The next races in both will be throughout the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend as a tripleheader of races will highlight the holiday weekend. All three events will be co-sanctioned by both touring series’ starting on Friday, May 25th Limaland before moving to Waynesfield Motorsports Park in Waynesfield, Ohio on Saturday, May 26th and then the weekend ends at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Sunday, May 27th.
