California, MO — (June 24th, 2012) — Repeating his performance from a month ago, Lanny Carpenter took his second Wingless Auto Racing win at Double X Speedway Sunday night.
On the initial start, Frank Brown took the lead followed by Carpenter. Before a lap was in the books, the action was stopped for Taylor Walton who spun in turn three with a flat tire.
On the second attempt at green, Brown again got the jump on Carpenter, but before a lap was in the books, Josh Stephens and Mitchell Moore made contact in turn three with Stephens suffering front end damage ending his evening.
Given a third chance, Carpenter raced into the lead on the restart followed by Brown. Right behind them were WAR points leaders Austin Alumbaugh and Mitchell Moore.
After three laps were officially in the books, Aaron Kuhn spun in turn two. Casey Baker had nowhere to go and ran up and over Kuhn. Luckily, Baker landed back on all fours without flipping, but both drivers had too much damage to continue.
On the restart, disaster struck for the season points leaders as Alumbaugh spun in turn two collecting Moore in the process. Alumbaugh was able to continue, but Moore was not able to fix his damaged machine before the restart.
Alumbaugh would again have trouble a couple of laps later as he slid off of turn two ending his evening.
Once green again, Carpenter kept his sprinter right around the bottom and extended his lead over Brown and Steven Cross, who was on the move.
Lap nine would see the final stoppage of the evening as John Helm, the previous night’s winner at Lucas Oil Speedway, spun in turn one.
When the green reappeared, Carpenter again took off followed by Brown and Cross.
As the laps dwindled down, Brown and Cross started to catch Carpenter. By the time the white flag appeared, the duo had moved to within striking distance.
As the trio came off of turn four, Carpenter would win by a few car lengths in the Jack Hockett Racing MRP with RMS power. Brown, in the Brown Farms MRP-Frankenstein edged Cross’s Zink Motor Company entry by about a wheel length for second. Jeff Wingate and Chad Tye would round out the top five. Taylor Walton rebounded from his early misfortune to finish sixth with Helm seventh.
Wingless Auto Racing will be back in action on Sunday July 8th at the new Atchison County Raceway in Atchison, KS.
