Kody Swanson is the new leader in the 2012 TRAXXAS USAC Silver Crown Series standings after finishing second in last Friday’s 100-lap race at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. He leads the series to this Friday’s “Rollie Beale 100” at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway.
Swanson led the first 55 laps at Iowa before yielding to eventual race winner Bobby East. East led the final 45 laps in his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing Chevrolet Performance/Curb Records Beast/Kistler to beat Swanson, Levi Jones, Jerry Coons Jr. and Russ Gamester.
Bud Keading, who finished seventh at Iowa, trails Swanson by 18 points, while Jones, the defending series champion, is third, just six behind Kaeding.
Swanson is the defending Toledo race winner, leading all 150 laps of last year’s event at the half-mile paved oval. East was third at Toledo last year, while Coons was fourth.
Coons won USAC’s inaugural Silver Crown race at Toledo in 2010, a race in which Swanson finished second.
Friday’s Toledo race honors the 1973 USAC National Sprint Car Champion who scored 32 USAC Sprint Car victories during his USAC racing career, including five at Toledo Speedway.
