As the intense heat wave in the midwest continues, it got even hotter at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Tuesday July 3rd with the running of the Inaugural Bob Reynolds Memorial. A total of 123 Racing machines filled the pit area between the 360 Sprints, Non Wing Sprints, and UMP Modifieds, with Tim Shaffer snagging the $6000 top prize in the 360 Sprints, Thomas Meseraull winning the $1500 Non wing feature, and Matt Westfall picking up the $1000 UMP Modified win.

Kicking off racing action were the NRA/SOD 360 Sprints. After preliminary events, including a pair of 8 lap dashes to line up the first 6 rows of the 30 Lap A Main, #2m Dustin Daggett, and #11 Tim Allison would lead the field to green. Daggett would jump out to the early lead with Allison and #83 Tim Shaffer in tow. #17 Jared Horstman would fall in line and begin his charge to the front. On lap 12, Shaffer would use his experience shine through as he made his way past the top 2 in lapped traffic and grab the lead. Meanwhile, Horstman crept his way to the 2nd spot, and began to close on Shaffer until making contact with the turn 3 wall and bringing out the yellow. On the restart, #40G Caleb Griffith would lose a wheel and roll on the backstretch, prompting a red flag. The additional caution would allow Horstman’s crew to repair the damage on the #17 and roll him back out on the track with 9 laps remaining, but his quest to sweep the 360 events at WRP in 2012 would be over. In the end, Shaffer proved to be the class of the field, taking home the $6000 winner’s check with Allison 2nd, #B20 Butch Schroeder 3rd, #6S JR Stewart 4th, and #22H Randy Hannagan completing the top 5.

Next up were the Buckeye Machine Non Wing Sprint Cars in A Main action. #22s Kyle Simon and #37 Dustin smith would lead the field to green, with Simon taking off with the point, meanwhile, #18 Thomas Meseraull would begin his charge from his 7th starting spot, working the razor thin cushion at the top of the speedway to perfection. Meseraull would surge to the lead on lap 14, looking to pick up his first checkered flag in nearly a month. T-Mez would first have to survive a handful of cautions in the closing laps, one of which saw #12x Robert Ballou and #40 Justin Grant making contact with Grant spinning and making contact with the turn 4 wall. Grant would show his displeasure with Ballou under caution, slinging his helmet at the #12x machine as it passed by. In the end Meseraull would win over Ballou, with Simon 3rd, Matt Westfall 4th in the Nelson #9n, and #37 Dustin Smith rounding out the top 5.

Completing the nights racing action would be the Post Agri Service UMP Modifieds. Carnage nearly ensued on lap one as pole sitter Rob Williams’ #11w machine would break and slow dramatically in front of the field. Williams would make it to the pit area safely and action would continue. #67 Eddie Shaner would jump out front and looked to be on his way to his 2nd career victory, but #20w Matt Westfall had other plans. Westfall would muscle his way past Shaner on lap 14 and grab the win. #40 Terry Hull would come home 2nd, with #5x Jerry Bowersock 3rd, Shaner 4th, and UNOH Racer #1 Cody Weisner completing the top 5. Notably, defending track champ #44 Zach Schroeder would finish 8th after a poor pill draw left him behind the eight ball and having to race his way through one of 3 B Mains for the Mods.

Waynesfield Raceway Park returns to action this Saturday July 7th with the running of the 2nd Annual Dick Spencer Memorial for the Buckeye Machine Non Wing Sprints in an event co-santioned by the B.O.S.S. Series. Also in action will be the Post Agri Service UMP Modifieds, Block Thunder Stock Cars, Dave’s Reliable Motors Tough Trucks, Performance Powder Coating 1000cc Mini Sprints, and JR and Sons Service Center Compacts.
