Chico, CA – July 27, 2012…The hot and hectic points battle for the Cancen Oil King of the West Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear will resume on Saturday August 18, with the third and final visit of the season to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway.
Current point leader and two-time series champion Jonathan Allard has captured both of the previous visits to his home track this year aboard Morrie & Katie Williams’ No. 0 sprinter. Included in that was his fifth career triumph at the “Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial” in May.
“It’s always nice to come back home and race at Silver Dollar Speedway with the King of the West Series,” commented Allard, who won a track point race just a couple weeks ago in Chico & also finished runner up at the Mini Gold Cup with the World of Outlaws in March. “We’ve been very successful so far this year at SDS and hope to continue it on August 18.”
Filling out the top-five in points going into the Silver Dollar Speedway on August 18 are Scotts Valley’s Evan Suggs, 13-time Golden State & 13-time NARC champion Brent Kaeding of Campbell, former Speedweek winner Bobby McMahan from Elk Grove, Australian native Peter Murphy and ’04 Mini Gold Cup victor Willie Croft of Sacramento.
Just 11-points separate Suggs and Kaeding in the fight for second, while only eight-markers separate McMahan from Murphy & Croft, who are currently tied in fifth. Completing the top-10 in the standings are ’04 Golden State champ Jason Statler of Grass Valley, Placerville’s Andy Gregg, most recent KWS winner Craig Stidham of Fresno and reigning KWS titlist Tim Kaeding from San Jose.
Other drivers expected will include Sacramento’s Kyle Hirst, Fair Oak’s Chad Compton, Rio Linda’s Cody Lamar, Elk Grove’s Sean McMahan, Chico’s Brad Bumgarner, Redding’s Tyler Wolf, Paradise’s John Michael Bunch, St. Helena’s Jeff Griffin, Oakhurst’s Doug Gandy, Grass Valley’s Pat Harvey, Rio Vista’s Danielle Simpson and more.
The front grandstand gate on Saturday August 18 will open at 5pm, with qualifying around 6:30pm and racing beginning around 7pm. All seating is general admission for the event with adult tickets costing $20, juniors $15 and children $6.
The Silver Dollar Speedway is located on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds, a half-mile west of SR 99 on Park Ave in Chico, California. For more information on the Silver Dollar Speedway visit the track website at http://www.
