Back to School Double this Weekend at CSP!

, PEORIA, Ariz. (August 6, 2012) – Back to school time isn’t all bad, as in the case of Canyon Speedway Park it means two full nights of racing action this weekend with the Allscapes Back to School Special this Friday and Saturday.

And, there’s a little something for everyone, with the IMCA Modifieds and CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Cars headlining the weekend double that also includes Pure Stocks, Bombers and X-Modifieds. Dwarf Cars join in on Saturday’s action as well. Both nights of racing action atop the 1/3-mile clay oval get under way at 7:00 p.m.

To liven things up even more, some added money will be on the line for several classes on Saturday night with $750 up for grabs for the winner of the IMCA Modified feature, $500 for both the CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Car and Pure Stock victors and $200 for the Bombers. The top finishers from Friday’s feature event will be locked into Saturday’s Allscapes Back to School finale.

Although shut out of victory lane thus far in 2012 at CSP, Cody Center holds the IMCA Modified points lead by 5 markers over Jason Noll, who scored a win on March 3. The IMCA Modifieds have offered up six winners in seven events, with Ricky Thornton, Jr., the only one able to repeat. Other winners have included Noll, Tim Ward, D.J. Wood, Mark Stewart and Robert Adams.

With two triumphs in four CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Car outings, Matt Lundy holds a three-point edge over June 9 winner Dustin Cormany and Johnny Shelton, Jr., who are tied for second in points. Zach Sawyers has also reached victory lane in CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Car action.

Ty Weidner has topped three of nine of Pure Stock features, but it’s Chris McCurdy, Jr., leading the championship points chase by 12 points over Joe Vlasity with Weidner another 23 points back in third.

With two wins in five Bomber features, John Romero holds on to a meager two-point advantage over June 16 winner John Peterson. Nick Langer and Daniel Romero have also enjoyed Bomber victory lane glory.

Chris Weimer has topped the most recent pair of X-Modified feature events, however it’s Jake Johnson, who won the opening pair of events, leading a tightly-bunched points race that has only 19 points separating a top five that includes Jason George, John Foster, Chris Caldwell and Weimer.

Dwarf Car action has offered up four winners in as many events including Greg Loper, Rick Godsey, Eddie O’Neil and Brian Stehr.

Tickets for the Allscapes Back to School Special are $15 on both Friday and Saturday night, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
