PEORIA, Ariz. (August 27, 2012) – Coming off a pair of idle weekends, Canyon Speedway Park fires back into action in top form with this weekend’s Labor Day Fan Appreciation double on Saturday and Sunday.

Modifieds and Sprint Cars will headline two full nights of competition atop the 1/3-mile clay oval, with both nights of action getting under way at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the IMCA Modifieds and CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, others classes taking to the track will include Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, Bombers and Southwest Mod Lites.

There will be some added money up for the IMCA Modifieds as well, as the top six finishers in Saturday’s feature will lock into the 6-car King of the Track Challenge set for Sunday’s Labor Day Double finale.

While D.J. Wood joined Ricky Thornton, Jr., as the only repeat winner in IMCA Modified action in the most recent event on August 11, Cody Center holds down the track championship points lead by 11 points over March 3 winner Jason Noll with August 10 winner Guy Norton, Clifton Maggard and Steve Stultz rounding out the top five.

Matt Lundy has topped three of six CSP Challenge Cup main events including the most recent outing on August 11, yet holds only a 5-point lead over Johnny Shelton, Jr., with Dustin Cormany, Lonnie Oliver and Scott Oliver filling out the top five.

While Ricky Thornton, Jr., who won a pair of IMCA Modified events in June, swept the August 10-11 Pure Stock weekend, it’s Chris McCurdy, Jr., with a 12-point advantage over Joe Vlasity in the Pure Stock title chase with Ty Weidner, Steve Bitting and Marlowe Wrightsman rounding out the top five.

John and Daniel Romero have combined to win five of seven Bomber features, with John Romero holding the Bomber points lead by six markers over June 16 winner Joe Peterson with May 12 winner Nick Langer, Trenton Setelin and Justin Bishop filling out the top five.

In seven previous Southwest Mod Lite feature events, only Tony Martin has been able to reach victory lane twice. Nick Gann scored the win in the most recent Southwest Mod Lite main on July 28.

This weekend will mark the first time for the Super Stocks to take to the CSP oval in 2012.

Tickets for the Labor Day Double are $15 on both Saturday and Sunday night, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
