(Lebanon, IN) Dameron Taylor will head to the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series season finale at Anderson Speedway knowing he has one title locked up. Taylor has been crowned the Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year for the 2012 Mel Kenyon Midget Series. He will receive a Simpson Driver’s Pack from Simpson World Indy at the USSA Awards luncheon at the Pit Stop BBQ and Grill November 3rd.
Taylor will also go through the pit gate at the October 6 race at Anderson Speedway engaged in a knife fight trailing Travis Young by only 39 championship markers. Young and Taylor finished one-two in the Mel Kenyon Midget Series Indianapolis Speedrome Challenge in July.
Taylor came to the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series as a rookie in the truest sense of the word. Prior to his first start in a Kenyon Midget his only prior experience was racing a Hornet at the Indianapolis Speedrome and Anderson Speedway.
When the dust settled on Taylor’s first Mel Kenyon Midget Series event at the Indianapolis Speedrome on April 21, he had crossed the finish line in fourth place. On Wednesday night May 23rd Taylor earned his first Mel Kenyon Midget Series win at Anderson Speedway. His second win came at the Indianapolis Speedrome on July 7th.
Taylor has proved he is a great qualifier as well. Throughout the season he has been trading fast times and track records with Mel Kenyon Midget Series veteran Travis Young – many times in the same qualifying session.
One question Taylor had to answer was how well he would do when the Mel Kenyon Midget Series started its dirt racing swing in August. He provided the answer with 5th, 2nd and 3rd place finishes at US 24 Speedway on surfaces ranging from dry slick to tacky and challenging. “Before I came here, I’d never even been through the gate of a dirt track,” Taylor commented.
Taylor races in the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series in a Hybrid Pro Head and Neck Restraint.
