DODGE CITY, Kan. (September 20, 2012) – The 2012 racing season at Dodge City Raceway Park comes to a close in little more than a week as the 3/8-mile clay oval puts the wraps on another year of wild racing action with Championship Night on Saturday, September 29.

The United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) 305-ci Sprint Cars will headline the night’s action that will also include the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Hornets.

While the track’s five champions will be determined on Championship Night, it will also be the season finale for the URSS Sprint Car ranks.

With a pair of events coming up this weekend before next weekend’s finale, Dodge City’s Brian Herbert currently holds a 54-point advantage over Colorado’s Jake Bubak in URSS National points. Bubak won the July 27 URSS event at Dodge City Raceway Park.

Herbert also leads Kansas Region points by a slim 14-point margin over Jeff Radcliffe, while Bubak has a healthy Colorado Region points lead over Brian Hardman. Next Saturday’s event awards both Kansas and Colorado Region points as well as National points.

While Perry Misner has the IMCA Stock Car championship secured and Bart Baker (IMCA Sport Modifieds) and Dan Rogers (Thunder Cars) will be difficult, if not impossible, to overtake, the IMCA Modified and Hornet battles are still up for grabs.

With his fifth IMCA Modified score of the season at DCRP last weekend, Ponca City, Oklahoma’s Brendon Gemmill closed to within one point of Woodward, Oklahoma’s Cole Traugott. Traugott is trying to unseat Gemmill from the championship position he claimed last year.

In the Hornets, which battle it out in wild and crazy fashion on the inner asphalt oval, Dwayne Bowman holds a meager six-point edge over Jarrett Lunow with Derrick Sprott and Brandon Sprott remaining within striking distance as well.

Tickets to the Saturday night, September 29, Championship Night season finale are just $15 for adults. Seniors and Military receive a $5 discount, with children 11 and under admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
