COTTONGIM CLOSES OUT USAC/STARS D1 SERIES WITH 30-LAPPER

Tyler Cottongim of Avon, Ind. won Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC/STARS D1 Midget finale at Grundy County Speedway. He led the final three laps of the “Alex Pruett/Bob Lockard Memorial” after passing Grant Galloway on lap 28.

Galloway took second ahead of Brad Greenup, Bryan Nuckles and Jim Anderson, who emerged as the series champion.

Anderson flipped after the checkered flag and was transported to a local hospital for observation.

The 2012 series produced seven feature winners, with Anderson, Kyle Hamilton and Kyle O’Gara each registering two wins. Single victories went to Mario Clouser, Billy Hulbert, Bryan Nuckles, Cottongim and Kody Swanson.

The championship is Anderson’s first in USAC competition as he also posted a second, two thirds, and two fourths.
