With the 2012 BOSS points championship reaching a climax, Russiaville, Indiana driver Dustin Smith chose the right time to get the Conaway Motorsports / Lee’s Hydraulics #37 into top form. Smith charged from his 5th starting spot and captured the lead working lap #14 of the 25 lap main event at Wayne County Speedway tonight.

Another stout field of 30 traditional sprint cars signed in to do battle with Kirk Jeffries, Aaron Middaugh, Tony Beaber and Mike Brecht picking up heat race wins. The only 2 time feature winner with BOSS in 2012, Jack Sodeman Jr, got upside down in his heat race, then returned to win the B-Main from his 11th starting position.

The elder statesman of the BOSS series, Chuck Wilson from Perrysburg, Ohio brought the field to green for the main event, but outside polesitter Brandon Spithaler jumped out to the early lead. A lap 2 red flag flew for Mark Cassella who got upside down in turn #4. He was okay.

Back under green, Spithaler continued to show the way with Wilson in tow. Working lap #4, Wilson and 3rd place Dustin Smith both pulled alongside the leader as they raced 3 wide off turn 4 for the lead. Spithaler, in the Tom Burkey owned #57B, held on through lap # 6 before relinquishing the lead to veteran Wilson who opened a sizeable margin for the next 6 circuits despite 2 more cautions.

On the 14th lap, charging into turn one, Dustin Smith was able to throw his car in under Wilson to secure the top spot, leaving Wilson and Spithaler to wage a torrid battle for the runner-up spot. A final red flag flew for the #83 car of Adam Cruea who took a tumble in turn 3, setting up a late race run to the checkers.

Over the final circuits, Smith was untouchable to score the win and to increase his points lead heading into the series finale at Eldora Speedway on October 27th. Dallas Hewitt and Tony Beaber both found some late momentum to get up to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. Spithaler was 4th despite breaking a shock after contact battling with Wilson. Mike Brecht wound up 5th with Wilson fading to 6th late in the event. Jack Sodeman Jr, Landon Simon, Aaron Middaugh, and Mike Burkin rounded out the top 10.
