Abreu Hangs on For Fourth

PETERSEN MEDIA

One of the hottest drivers in the region as the season comes to a close is Rico Abreu, and though he fell short of victory on Saturday night, Abreu still managed to hang on to a fourth place finish during the Calistoga Speedway 75th Anniversary race.

Kicking his night off with the eighth fastest lap during qualifications, Abreu would charge his Abreu Vineyards/ButlerBuilt/Outlaw Wings backed entry up to a third place heat finish, and earn the direct transfer into the feature event.

Lining up in the second row after the number eight pill was drawn for the inversion, Abreu sat third as a trio of wrecks slowed the early going of the race, one being a wreck that tragically took the life of Tyler Wolf.

Back underway, Abreu rocketed around Sean Becker to overtake the second spot on the fourth lap, as he chased down leader, Carson Macedo. Chasing down Macedo, who drove flawless laps, Abreu kept his Paul Silva tuned machine within striking distance, waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

That opportunity came on the 23rd lap, when he was able to get around Macedo in traffic, and distance himself from the pack.

Looking to score his third win at the speedway this year, Abreu took the white flag, but drastically began slowing as he went through the first and second turns.

Becker, Tim Kaeding, and Jason Meyers were able to get around him, and he limped home to a fourth place finish, as he ran out of fuel.

“It’s a bummer that we weren’t able to win, because we had a fast car, but my thoughts are with the Wolf family,” he said. “It’s been a tough year in our racing community, and I wish them the best as they go through this.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, Toyota, ButlerBuilt,, Outlaw Wings, and Petersen Media for their partnership.

ON TAP: Rico will now return to action at the Western World Finals in Arizona November 15-17th.
