Brisbane, AU — (November 4, 2012) — Darren Jensen showed his rivals the high line and his class on the way to victory in Round 3 of the KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night November 3, the Qld veteran racing his way from position five to the front just past mid-race distance and holding out Ian Madsen through the closing laps to score a popular and deserving win in front of his fans.
Seasoned watchers of Sprintcar racing at Archerfield would have circled Jensen’s name as a potential winner when he used the top of the race track in turns three and four to pull off a spectacular pass on Paul Morris for second place in Heat race number five, knowing that if the top stayed okay then Jensen would use it. Come Feature time, they would not be disappointed.
However as good as Jensen was, his shot at victory was aided by a deflating right rear tyre on the #83 of Bryan Mann. As the defending Series Champion, Mann missed the opening two Rounds but was busy making every post a winner in his first race of the season only to have the heartbreak of a flat tyre ruin his chances after winning the Dash and leading the opening seventeen laps of the Feature. Mann will run selected events only this season but don’t rule him out of race wins and podiums if Saturday night was any indication of the season that lays ahead of him.
Third place in the Feature was enough for Andrew Scheuerle to grab the Series point lead from Todd Wanless while fourth place in the night’s main event moves Danny Reidy to within six points of Wanless and only eight points from the top spot after the first three point races of the season long Championship. Jensen’s win consolidates his fourth place in the standings – albeit twenty eight points back – while consistent runs has Brock Dean in fifth in his return to regular Sprintcar racing at Archerfield.
The KRE Race Engines Sprintcar Track Championship continues next Saturday night with Round 4 headlining an all open wheel programme that includes the Polar Ice Midget Car Series featuring American Alex Bright, Wingless Sprints, Lightning Sprints, Compacts and Formula 500’s.
