World Series Sprintcars will return to Sydney Speedway in January, where a raucous crowd and big name local and USA challengers will greet Australia’s premier Sprintcar series.

WSS last visited the Parramatta venue in January 2010 for round 11 of the 09/10 Championship, and the series’ return to Sydney is a much-anticipated one.

“It was always a major priority to get WSS back to Sydney,” commented WSS Race Director Shane Collins. “Negotiations were positive and it’s fantastic for both parties that we can take the country’s premier Sprintcar series back into to the heart of Sprintcar Racing in NSW”

The event will take place over two nights on January 18 and 19 2013, and with its $10,000-to-win Saturday Feature Race is sure to attract a star-studded field; the Australian Sprintcar Open and Australian Sprintcar Championship will take place over the preceding two weekends, with the WSS calendar making travelling to all 3 events advantageous for teams.

Local drivers Ian Madsen, Ben Atkinson and Mitchell Dumesny will be leading the charge for the local contingent, and adding to the spectacle will be American superstars Joey Saldana and Jason Sides. Both have been confirmed for the event, and murmurs continue about several more big international names appearing at the show.

“With local talent, visiting stars and WSS drivers, it promises to be an exciting event. Add the brand new Mediatec Big Screen, WSS promotions and entertainment to the mix, and we cannot wait to get into Sydney and have a memorable week,” continued Collins.

Sydney Speedway Assistant Manager Shaun McDonald echoed Collins’ excitement.

“The vibe overall here is extremely positive. WSS has not been to Sydney since January 2010 and Rebecca [Seymour] and I are extremely pleased that we are the ones to bring back WSS in 2013.”

The 26th annual World Series Sprintcars Championship begins on December 26 at Speedway City in South Australia. Stay tuned to worldseriessprintcars.com.au for all of the latest news regarding the series as it is announced.
