At the Sydney Speedway, Ian Madsen is a mark man. Opening up the first three legs of Speedweek on fire, Madsen continued his string of strong runs as he added his third win of the season, fourth at the speedway, a second, as was on his way to another top three finish until a left rear tire went down and forced him out.

Madsen kicked off the new year by timing in third fastest during round three of Speedweek, before scoring a second place finish in his heat aboard his Watson’s Express Transport/Australia Wide Towing/KPC machine, putting him in the fourth row of the feature.

When the feature event went green, Madsen was off to a very good start as he muscled his way into the second spot in the first five laps, and looked to challenge for a win, when he lost a left rear tire on the eighth circuit, and ended up 18th.

“I thought we had a great car on Tuesday night, but unfortunately we had a touch of bad luck, but it’s part of the sport and we moved on,” Madsen said.

Returning to action on Friday night for the final weekend of the five race Speedweek, Madsen turned in one of his most dominating performances of the season.

Starting the night of by timing in the Lucas Oil/EJF Engineering/Mike Hughes and Partners machine with quick time, Madsen went on to win his heat race, and again start the feature from the fourth row.

Going green, Madsen searched around the slick speedway for grip as he crept inside the top five.  Taking advantage of a mid race caution, Madsen moved into the third spot as he began to challenge race leaders Trevor Green and Max Dumesny.

As Dumesny grabbed the lead on the 26th lap, Madsen made a daring move to get into second getting into the first turn on lap 27, before rocketing around Dumesny exiting turn two to take the lead.

Madsen would motor away from the pack once he got into traffic, to complete the clean sweep of the evening.

“Friday was an awesome night for our team,” he said. “I’ve said over, and over again we have a fast racecar, and Friday we showed it again and picked up a huge win.”

Closing out speedweek Saturday night, Madsen scored a third in his heat putting him on the pole for the feature event.

Shooting out to an early race lead, Madsen was in control much of the race. With Dumesny shadowing him, Madsen was precise in traffic making sure to keep the veteran shoe behind him.

On the last lap, Madsen slightly bobbled in traffic, and it let Dumesny sneak in and pick up the last lap pass and take home the win, with Madsen scoring second to close out the week.

“It was a great speedweek for our team,” Madsen said. “We were in contention to win during all five nights, and to finish with two wins, and the championship is awesome.”

Madsen would like to thank Watson’s Express Transport, Australia Wide Towing, Lucas Oil, EJF Engineering, Mike Hughes & Partners, City Access Scaffolding, Blackshaw’s Motor Body Repairs, ButlerBuilt, and Factory Kahne Shocks for their continued support.
