Bad Luck Bites Covington

Showing plenty of speed during his 2013 season opener, bad luck hounded Matt Covington during both night’s of action as he scored 9th and 18th place finishes.

Kicking off his weekend at the Golden Triangle Speedway, Covington lined his T&L Foundry/Triple X Chassis/Winters on the front row of his heat race, where he would score a second place finish, transferring to the feature event.

Covington’s feature would be full of excitement, as the Glenpool, OK driver lined his Brodix/C.G. Martin Company/Factor 1 Racing machine up in the ninth spot, after narrowly missing the top-eight redraw.

When the green flag dropped, Covington had a good start that saw him move up into the seventh position.

Running inside the top-10, Covington was battling for the sixth spot, when he cut a left rear aboard his All-Star Performance/Outlaw Wings/Pro Shocks backed entry, and he was forced to the work area.

Making the change, Covington would fight his way back up to a ninth place finish, salvaging what could have been a disappointing finish.

“We had a pretty good car all night,” said Covington. “The guys did a great job making the change, and we were able to grab a top-10 finish.”

Saturday night, the scene shifted to the Battleground Speedway, and Covington lined up fourth in his heat.

Covington was strong in his heat, as he muscled his way to the lead, and proceeded to pick up the heat race win, and earn a spot in the re-draw, where he pulled a six, putting him in the third row for the feature event.

Rolling off in the third row, Covington sat in the fifth spot early in the feature, when disaster stuck on the fifth lap, as the DMI Components/Keizer Wheels/ButlerBuilt backed entry had an axle break sending the car on it’s side, ending his night.

“It was a rough weekend for sure,” he said. “We had our fair share of bad luck, but we will head home, get it back together, and hit the track in a couple of weeks.”

Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winter, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Perfomrance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Matt will return to action on March 16th, at the Kennedale Speedway Park.
