Taking in a pair of races over the weekend, Lance Dewease turned in his best performances of the young 2013 season, as he scored a second at Lincoln on Saturday before charging to a fifth place finish at Selinsgrove on Sunday afternoon with his Heffner Racing team.
“We started out the year good in Florida, but we lost our primary car to a wreck, and then we had a few races trying to get this car working, and it’s good right now,” he said.
Lining up fifth in his heat race at Lincoln, Dewease had a great start that saw the Lelands.com/Conduit Connections/Pasquirellos Auto Shop No.27 jump into the top three, as he battled with Allan Krimes and Logan Schuchart.
The trio went hard at it, but at the stripe, Dewease settled for third, which put him fifth in the feature event.
When he hit the loud pedal for the feature, Dewease worked inside the top five as he battled with JJ Grasso and Gerald McIntyre.
On lap eight Dewease got by Mcintyre for good as he took over the fourth spot aboard his Penkse Shocks/Wings Unlimited/Brown and Miller backed entry and looked for more.
On a lap 16 restart, Dewease made the moved of the race as he went top shelf, and went from fourth to second, and began chasing down Brent Marks.
Doing all he could, he ran out of time and settled for the second spot.
“We were plenty good and Lincoln,” he said. “That was one of the best cars we put on the track all year, so hopefully we are on to something.”
Heading to Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday, Dewease continued to show speed, as he was the fastest driver in hotlaps!
Starting dead last, eighth, in his heat, Dewease worked hard on the super slick track, as he charged his way up to a fourth place finish, transferring to the feature event.
Starting 10th in the feature, Dewease bought his time on the extremely slick track, as he slowly gained track position.
Over the first half of the race, passing was nearly impossible, and Dewease had his Keizer Wheels/DMI/Schoenfeld Headers backed entry in the ninth spot.
Dewease’s choice to take it easy during the early part of the race paid off late, as cars began to lose tires, and he began to gain spots.
Dewease, would bring home a fifth place finish.
“We were fast, but it was almost impossible to pass in the feature,” he explained. “Unfortunately with the day shows, sometimes the tracks will get like that, and you just have to be smart. Overall, I’m happy with our weekend, I just want to get the Heffner Racing team into victory lane!”
