AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car veteran Kevin Thomas of Cullman, Ala. captained Saturday’s winning team in the 16th Annual 3-hour karting enduro benefitting the USAC Benevolent Foundation and sponsored by the Tony Stewart Foundation. The race featuring 10 teams of USAC veteran drivers and others was held at the “Fun at Fastimes” karting center on the northwest side of Indianapolis, Ind.
The Thomas-led Hinchman Uniforms team completed 386 laps of the twisting two-tiered facility and finished a lap ahead of the runner-up Burco Molding team captained by Nick Richards. A team sponsored by Eddie Gilstrap Ford and mylocalfordstore.com and Hinchman Uniforms and led by Hunter Schuerenberg took third, three laps in arrears.
The event raised over $10,000 for the USAC Benevolent Foundation, which assist needy participants in the USAC and IndyCar community.
Carl McIntire emerged the winner of a special “race of champions” among members of the winning team, which also included Thomas, USAC drivers Wes McIntire, Tyler Courtney, Brian Karraker and Caleb Armstrong, plus Taylor Courtney.
Saturday’s race was split into two segments, with a half-way break after the first 90 minutes. Each team was required to execute four pit stops (driver changes) during each segment.
The fastest lap of the competition was posted by the Burco Molding team.
