Tough Trip for Hirst

The week of racing in Las Vegas, NV and Tucson, AZ did not go as hoped for Kyle Hirst, but the Sacramento, CA driver is not deterred by his results.

“We struggled a bit,” he said. “But Outlaw races are tough, and these first races with them are only making us better for our King of the West season,” he said.

Kicking off in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday night, Hirst got off to a rough start as he timed his Roth Enterprises/Mobil1/Weld Wheels Entry in 28th quick, putting him in a very early hole.

Starting seventh in his heat, Hirst would finish in the same position as he headed to the night’s Last Chance Qualifier.

With the top four finishers transferring to the feature, Hirst’s eighth place starting spot put him in a tough spot.

Coming alive late in the race, Hirst made some swift moves to snag a third place finish, and transfer to the A main, where he would start at the rear of the field.

Starting 24th in the A, Hirst was forced into the work area at the halfway point with a flat left rear tire.

Making the repair, Hirst restarted from the tail, and ended up scoring a 19th place finish.

“We got rolling good in the B, and we were decent in the A, but starting in the back is no easy task with the Outlaws,” he said.

Returning to the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday night, KH’s qualifying effort of 31st quick buried him all night again.

Starting eighth in his heat, Hirst made some early moves that propelled him to the fifth and final transfer spot, but he again would start at the rear of the feature.

Lining up in the last row, Hirst rolled around near the back for the first 15 laps, as he struggled to get moving forward, and ultimately pulled in to the pit area.

With Friday a travel day, Hirst and his team returned to action on Saturday night at the Tucson International Raceway in Tucson, AZ, and his night started much better as he timed in 18th fastest.

Starting sixth in his heat, Hirst got hung out on the start, and slipped back to eighth.

He would rebound, to seventh, but narrowly missed out on the direct transfer by one spot.

Starting on the front row of the B, Hirst would score the second place finish, and make his third feature in-a-row with the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’.

Starting 18th on the narrow Tucson International Raceway, Hirst would click off fast, smooth laps, as he scored a 16th place finish.

“It’s tough sledding with the Outlaw boys, but our Roth Motorsports team worked hard all week,” he said. “Dennis and Teresa Roth have put together a strong team for us, and I’m looking forward to racing on some tracks I’m familiar with.”

Kyle and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, Mobil1, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Astro Titanium, 3H Cattle, Kaeding Performance, and Kent Performance Center for their support in 2013.
