Wagaman Wins at Trail-Way

From Trail-Way Speedway

Hanover, PA — (April 26, 2013) —  Defending track champ Tim Wagaman
started on the pole and claimed his first win of the year in the “358”
sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.

But that wasn’t the whole story.  Wagaman yielded to
outside front row starter Mike Duncan, Jr. at the start and chased
Duncan the first three laps before taking the lead on lap four.

“I kinda messed up there at the start,” said Wagaman upon
exiting his Blue Ribbon Exteriors/Ryan’s Landscaping/Hanover Auto Team
#1* in victory lane, “We hit lapped traffic really quick.  It got a
little hairy, but we were back there once.”

While Wagaman led every lap from lap four on, the race
turned out to be a thriller, with Wagaman holding off a charging
opening night winner Austin Hogue as the two raced with two lapped
cars under the checkered flag.

“Hogue is unbelievable!” exclaimed Wagaman, “He’s gonna be
the driver to beat this year.  He races clean and I’m glad he’s doing
well.”

Hogue started eighth and was running fourth when the
caution came out for Jeff Rohrbaugh, who spun in turn four.  Rohrbaugh
restarted at the rear, but dropped from the field on lap 13.

Hogue caught Duncan for second on lap 12, and closed on
the leader as Wagaman was trying to clear lapped traffic.

The two leaders had fans on their feet as they raced
through heavy lapped traffic over the second half of the race.
Wagaman’s final margin of victory was less than a carlength.

Hogue settled for second, with 10th-starting Brad
McClelland, Duncan, and ninth-starting Robbie Kendall completing the
top five.  Sixth through tenth were Cris Eash, Tim Berkheimer, J.B.
Cunningham, hard-charger Mike Bittinger (who started 17th), and Scott
Fisher completing the top ten.

Bittinger actually ran back to his Abbottstown shop to get
another car when his car failed to get any oil pressure, then suffered
a flat tire in his heat.

Heat winners for the 20 “358” sprinters on hand were
teammates Berkheimer and Hogue.

Brad Weber started on the outside front row and led every
lap of the 20-lap 600cc micro-sprint feature.  It was his fifth career
Trail-Way win.

Polesitter Larry Thompson finished second, with
12th-starting Dwayne Gutshall (who came from the rear after a lap four
spin), Jim Young, and Jeremy Glass rounding out the top five.

Heats for the 18 micro-sprints were won by Glass and Tyler
Esh, who was running second when the car shut off on lap 15 of the
feature.

Ryan Smith became the third leader of the event when Brian
Walls suffered a flat tire on lap 12, and went on to claim his second
career win in the 15-lap limited stock feature.

Second through fifth were 15th-starting Terry Hartlaub,
Todd Miller, Jeff Foster, and Robbie Carroll.

Heats for the 25 limited stocks were won by Brad Kress,
Miller, and Rod Weaver.  Matt Chronister won the consolation event.

Jimmy Combs led every lap from the pole in the 20-lap
street stock feature.  Though he has won in thundercars, it was his
first street stock win.

Second through fifth were Bill Foster, Larry Landis,
Timothy Hahn, and Dan Furman.

Heats for the 15 street stocks were won by Justin Mitchell
and Furman.

Next Friday (5/3), Trail-Way Speedway will host the 358 Sprint Cars,
358 Late Models, Limited Stocks, and Central PA Legends.  Gates open
