Runner-Up at Eldora Opener

Following their second triumph of the season in Oklahoma last weekend, the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team traveled East to open up the month of May on Friday at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.  In 70 previous appearances dating back to 1996, Craig Dollansky most recently raced to victory at ‘The Big E’ in 2008 and last season recorded two top-fives in the four races contested.

With a strong field of 39 drivers signed in for battle, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ made the most of a late draw in qualifying by stopping the clock 9th fastest at 13.325 seconds.  Heat race competition then put the MobileStar Maxim outside the front row where Dollansky raced to the win to earn a spot in the dash.  After an 8-pill inversion draw, the Elk River, Minnesota native started third and finished in the same position in the 6-lap event.

In the 30-lap A-Main the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter lined up inside row two.  When the green flag waved on the main event Dollansky quickly claimed the runner-up spot by turn one.  After leader Brad Sweet broke on lap 9, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ assumed the top spot and opened up a two second lead by lap 11.  Following a red flag three circuits later, the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products #7 chose the outside for the double-file restart and brought the field back to green but a hard-charging Kerry Madsen dove low in turn one on lap 17 to steal the lead.  The final caution came on lap 20 and with just ten to go, Dollansky held the runner-up spot behind Madsen racing to the checkered flag with a top-five finish in 2nd.

“I felt like I was getting a flat left rear tire but it held in there and got us to the end,” commented Dollansky.  “Kerry had a good car and drove a good race.  To come home second in this group of cars with the level of competition is a strong run.  We would have loved to get a win but have something to build on for tonight.”

The Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team returns to Eldora Speedway tonight for the Outlaw Thunder finale.
