KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 7, 2013) – The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, featuring the best winged sprint car drivers in the world, is coming to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, May 11. Knoxville Raceway’s weekly drivers will compete against the Outlaws to defend their home track, setting the stage for an electrifying preview of the Knoxville Nationals in August.
The Mediacom Shootout World of Outlaws will feature the most competitive events so far this season, as the Knoxville drivers strive to knock off the Outlaws. While it’s rare for a Knoxville driver to be victorious at this level, racing enthusiasts believe the chances for a win this year are higher than ever. There have been 132 World of Outlaws features (not including the Knoxville Nationals) at Knoxville Raceway since 1979, and only twice has a Knoxville weekly competitor walked away with a victory (Lasoski 1993, McCarl 2009).
The Knoxville favorites going into Saturday’s races include Terry McCarl (Outlaws race winner earlier this season in Florida), Brian Brown (finished second at the 2012 Nationals), Bronson Maeschen (2012 Capitani Classic winner), Mark Dobmeier (Outlaws feature winner in 2012 at Huset’s Speedway), Brooke Tatnell (Outlaws feature winner in 2010 at Knoxville Raceway), and Davey Heskin (finished in the top 10 at Nationals twice in the past three years).
The Mediacom Shootout World of Outlaws will be a night of non-stop action as the drivers take to the track at breakneck speeds on the legendary Knoxville half-mile track.
