Hahn Faces Tough Luck in First Visit to Three Midwest Tracks

Jetmore, KS —  (May 28, 2013) — For Brandon Hahn, logging laps is the name of the game.

In his second year of racing sprint cars, Hahn has ventured onto the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Presented by MAVTV American Real. Last week he competed at three tracks in three states, encountering tough luck on his first visit to each of the facilities.

“It was just not a very good weekend,” Hahn said. “My plan is to just learn and soak up as much from the other drivers, get laps and don’t tear my equipment up. Finishing every race is my main plan, but it’s hard when you have problems. We just had a really tough weekend.”

Hahn kicked off the week on Wednesday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., where he finished fourth in his heat race. He narrowly missed advancing to the feature and was relegated to a B Main, which he started second.

Hahn competed for one of the three transfer positions for the entire 12 laps before ending fourth – one spot out of advancing to the main event.

Mechanical gremlins plagued the team the following night when the MSD box went bad in his heat race at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. It dropped Hahn from third to last – ninth – and forced him to the back of the B Main.

“I got lapped and that was it for me,” he said. “I didn’t want to hurt my motor so I decided to pull in before the checkered flag. It seemed like we were behind the eight ball from the start of the night and I didn’t want to make it worse.”

On Saturday, the team ventured to The Great American Dirt Track for the 5th annual Steve King Memorial, where engine woes slowed Hahn. He started the feature in 17th, but was unable to complete many laps before heading to the pits.

“My motor just was not up to par and in the feature it made a different noise,” Hahn said. “That’s my only good motor so I wanted to salvage it.”

He finished 17th to cap the challenging weekend.

The team is using a backup engine this weekend when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Presented by MAVTV American Real visits Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., on Friday and Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., on Saturday for the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals.
