– TULSA, Okla. (June 9, 2013) The site of the next Hose Advantage Store ASCS Southwest Regional showdown lies just north of Phoenix at the one-third mile Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz on Saturday, June 15 for the third annual Father’s Day Classic.
The first of two scheduled stops at the Doug Gabbard owned facility, a trio of regional excursions to the north Phoenix suburb in 2012 yielded as many winners. Current point leader Rick Ziehl topped the field on April 7 with Billy Chester, who holds the runner up in points, taking the field on June 16 for his lone win of 2012. A rare appearance from Albuquerque, N.M. shoe Derrik Ortega was worthwhile on Oct. 6.
Dates combined with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real in 2012 saw Tony Bruce, Jr. (3/2/12), Jason Johnson (3/2/12 and 11/16/12), Brady Bacon (11/15/12), and Wayne Johnson (11/17/12) earning wins.
Johnny Herrera topped the Hose Advantage Store ASCS Southwest Region in the series first outing at the Canyon Speedway Park on May 22, 2010. In 14 dates at the Peoria oval, nine drivers have earned the winner’s check.
While Ziehl carries a healthy 124 point advantage into Saturday’s event. Billy Chester, Joshua Williams, Kaylene Verville, and Lance Norick make up the current top five in regional driver standings.
Suffering a hard crash in ASCS 305 competition this past Saturday night in Las Cruces, N.M. Lorne Wofford’s quest for his fifth regional triumph in 2013 is in question for this Saturday. The Alamogordo, N.M. native currently sits sixth.
Saturday, June 15 at the Canyon Speedway Park will feature IMCA Modifieds, LoanMart Challenge Cup Srint Cars, Mini Sprints, Renegades, and Dwarf Cars in addition to the Hose Advantage Store ASCS Southwest Region.
