– TULSA, Okla. (June 9, 2013) – With a lot of racing, a lot of traveling and a lot of money on the line the next two weeks, Tony Bruce Jr. took this past weekend off to prepare for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.

“I had to think big picture and with six races in nine days coming up, the best thing for my program was to take last weekend off to prepare for Speedweek,” he said. “I think we are set up to have a great week and a half of racing and hopefully pick up a few more wins.”

With only one race in the books during the month of June – an ASCS Sooner Region victory at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., on June 1 – Bruce Jr. is excited about his odds of success during the Speedweek, which begins on Friday as Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, hosts its first-ever Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

The 40th annual Summer Nationals is set for Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday. Bruce Jr. finished third in the race last season.

“I’ve always enjoyed Devil’s Bowl and the challenge it presents,” he said. “It’s such a fast track with two very different ends of the track, so it takes a great performance to leave that facility with a victory.”

Speedweek reaches the midpoint as the weekend wraps up on Sunday at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., which will also be putting on its inaugural Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race.

“It’s great to see new tracks and showcase our sport to new areas,” Bruce Jr. said. “Hopefully we can create more fans of sprint car racing and continue to add first-time tracks to the schedule every year.”

There will be a two-day break early next week for the teams to travel before resuming Speedweek action on Wednesday, June 19, at Lawton Speedway, where Bruce Jr. recently picked up his second victory of the season.

Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., hosts the fifth Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek race on Thursday, June 20, before a race on Saturday, June 22, at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., concludes the six-race spectacle.
