Oberlin, KS — (July 26, 2013) — There will be big money on the line and big names competing for that cash this weekend as the United Rebel Sprint Series kicks off its Speed Week with four straight nights of racing.
The event begins Friday night as the Rebels take to the fast 3/8-mile dirt oval of Dodge City Raceway Park. The URSS has a long-standing connection to the track, having competed many times at the facility on the south edge of town.
Taylor Velasquez and Brian Herbert won races earlier this season at DCRP, while Mike Peters and Jake Bubak were winners at the track in 2012.
On Saturday, the Rebels make a return to Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway for three continuous nights of action. Barry Crane and Ray Seemann won the first two races at the track this season.
On Sunday at Liberal, the drivers will compete in a King of the Hill battle. Two drivers will race against each other on the track for two laps, with the winner advancing in the bracket-style competition until a winner is declared. The winner will pocket $500, thanks to sponsor Craig Myers of Myers Engine in Ness City.
The week ends Aug. 2 and 3 in central Kansas after beginning in southwest Kansas. On Aug. 2, the Rebels will take to the 1/4-mile Bullring of Rush County Speedway for the Bullring Nationals.
The small track has become one of the favorites of many drivers in the series and has hosted some of the closest, most memorable races in the series’ history.
Jason Martin, Ray Seemann and Bubak all won at the track in 2012.
This year, URSS drivers will be competing for $1,000 to win the Bullring Nationals.
On Aug. 3, the Rebels will go from one extreme to the next — facing the 1/2-mile famed Belleville High Banks, a track that carries tremendous speeds, for the 305 Belleville Nationals.
The winner of the final race of Speed Week will take home $2,000, and all drivers starting the feature event that night are guaranteed $300.
After Seemann won the first race for the URSS in Belleville in 2010, nobody has been able to tame Luke Cranston on the 1/2-mile track. Cranston has won five in a row.
Many drivers are expected to make the shows during the week, and series founder Rick Salem is looking for some exciting action at all the tracks.
