Doing the Texas Two Step over the weekend, Matt Covington was in action for a pair of events where he scored an 11th place finish at Heart O’ Texas Speedway before scoring a second place finish at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Saturday night, Covington’s night started off with him starting third in his heat race, and the Glenpool, OK driver was awesome, as he went on to win the heat race going away, putting himself in the night’s redraw.

Pulling the vaunted eight pill, Covington lined his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Winters backed entry up in the fourth row of the feature event, but showed speed early in the race.

With the waiving of the green flag, Covington was up to the task of moving forward, as he found himself up the third spot behind Jake Martins and Sam Haferetepe, Jr on the fifth lap.

The next six laps saw the trip run nose to tail, until Martins tried to go top-shelf around Haferetepe, but Haferetepe missed the bottom and slid up the track opening the door for Covington to grab the lead, and lead for the next five laps until the yellow flew on the 16th circuit.

The restart saw Covington return to the bottom aboard his Brodix/C.G. Martin Company/Factor 1 Racing mount, but Martins had a full head of steam on the top and began challenging Covington for the lead.

As the duo exchanged slide-jobs, Haferetepe was able to find the spotty rubber, and passed both of them, before Covington dropped in line behind him, and went on to settle for the second spot.

“Overall it was a good night,” Covington said. “Sometimes when your up front, you can’t see the rubber building up, and Hafertepe found it while we were racing Jake Martins and we ended up second.”

On Friday night, Covington slipped back to the third spot in heat race from his second starting spot, and found himself on the front row of the B main, which he won.

Starting 17th in the feature, Covington was able to work up to the 11th spot by the 10th lap, when rubber began being laid down, and he got in line and finished in the 11th spot.

Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G.
