One week after having victory ripped from his grasps, Matt Mitchell returned to action, and picked up a URA win at the Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday night.

“It is great to be standing here with the trophy,” Mitchell said. “Last week we had a great car, but some mechanical issues took that from us, so it is great to come back and be that strong again.”

Piloting his Matt Mitchell Racing/A.R.T./MPD entry, Mitchell timed in fourth quickest before scoring a second place finish in his heat race.

Lining up fourth in the feature event, Mitchell was very good when the race went green, as he battled with Logan Mitchell for the second spot, as he took second as the first lap was completed.

Once in the second spot, he and leader, Danny Faria began distancing themselves form the field, as Mitchell worked on Faria, as he pounded the cushion.

Battling with Faria, Mitchell would poke his nose under the leader several times, but Faria had nothing of it, as he slammed the door several times on Mitchell’s attempts.

After a pair of red flags halted progress with 12 laps to go, Mitchell took advantage of the restart, as he flew around Faria on the outside of turn four with 10-laps to go, and went on to distance himself from the field, and picked up his third win of the season.

“We had a good car all night, and kept plugging away on the cushion,” he said. “We kept with him, and finally we had a good run off of four, and went on to grab the win.”

Matt Mitchell Racing would like to thank, A.R.T. Enterprises, MPD Racing, Parker Performance Engines, Caliagua, Bell Helmets, and Hedman Hedders for their support in 2013.
