Wood Focuses on Next Challenge After Frustrating Weekend

Lexington,  MN — (Aug. 26, 2013) — Cole Wood is ready to erase last weekend from his mind as he and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tackle Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., this Friday and Saturday.

“Last weekend was frustrating,” he said. “I’m ready to get back on the track.”

Wood struggled during a pair of events last weekend, starting on Thursday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. After starting on the outside of the front row during his heat race, Wood dropped to fifth following contact with an infield tire.

“The guy on the inside of me got the jump and I tried to slide him going into (turn) one,” he said. “I hit the infield tire.”

Wood was relegated to the B Main, which he started fifth. After several attempts to complete the first lap, the consolation race ended with Wood finishing in the runner-up position to earn a transfer to the main event. He started 20th and ended 16th on the narrow quarter-mile oval.

“The track was one lane on the bottom, dead slick, as slow as you can go,” he said. “Everybody was going one speed. There was no passing.”

The team hauled to Lexington 104 Speedway for Saturday’s inaugural Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race, which included an exhibition qualifying lap as the track wanted to establish a track record. Wood timed in third quickest.

He then started on the inside of the second row of his heat race, but jumped the cushion and fell to a sixth-place result.

“I lost a whole bunch of spots,” he said. “That was my fault.”

Wood started the main event on the outside of the sixth row and was challenging for a spot in the top 10 when his night ended early.

“I made two laps and the right rear bar from the birdcage to the frame, the bolt broke going into the corner,” he said. “The car just turned and went into the wall.”

Wood finished 16th for the second straight race.
