Taking of the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series over the weekend, Rico Abreu scored his eighth win of the year, third with the series, with his dramatic win on Friday night at the Jacksonville Speedway.

Lining up in the fourth row of the 30-lap feature event, Abreu showed he had a strong Keith Kunz Racing machine as he worked his way up into the second spot, as he chased after his teammate, Tanner Thorson.

Working on Thorson, and exchanging slide-jobs with him, Abreu was finally able to take the lead with just three laps to go as he executed a beautiful slide job exiting turn four.

Up front, Abreu held off his other KKM teammate, Christopher Bell, as he scored his sixth career series victory in 21 starts.

“This win is up there with all of them,” Abreu said “I drive for a great team with Pete Willoughby and Keith Kunz building and preparing such great cars, they are a pleasure to drive, and it’s great to score a win.”

Saturday night, Abreu and his KKM team were back in action with the POWRi Series as they invaded Spoon River.

After winning his heat race, Abreu had an early spin in the feature event, that sent him to the back of the pack.

From the back, Abreu again showed he had a great car, as he was able to charge his way back up to an 11th place finish.

“Overall it was a pretty good weekend,” he said. “We have the Four Crown race at Eldora this weekend, so hopefully we can stay strong and score a big win at a prestigious event.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, ButlerBuilt, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld, Keith Kunz Motorsports, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and Willwood for their support.
