Competing in the Jim Nace Memorial National Open on Saturday night at the Selinsgrove Speedway, Lance Dewease came up a little short on his bid for a fourth event victory and settled for a third place finish, coming on the heels of a sixth place effort at Williams Grove on Friday night.

“We had a pretty good car on Saturday night, but Pat Cannon was really good, and Fred Rahmer got us late,” Dewease said.

Lining up on the front row with two-time winner, Pat Cannon, Dewease looked for his fourth triumph, but it was Cannon getting the jump on the start, with Dewease slipping back to the third spot.

In just seven laps, the leaders had encountered slower traffic, and Dewease found himself in an intense battle with Greg Hodnett and Stevie Smith, with Dewease and his Lelands.com/Conduit Connections/Pasquirello’s Auto Shop entry actually slipping back to the fourth spot at one point.

Rallying past Hodnett, Dewease took over the third spot on the 23rd lap, and found himself back in the second spot on the 24th lap for the scheduled red flag.

Back in action, Dewease hounded race-long leader, Pat Cannon, as he looked to stop Cannon’s two-year reign on the event, but late in the race, Dewease had his hands full with Fred Rahmer, and again slipped back to the third spot.

The last handful off laps were exciting as the trio all fought for the win, but when the dust settled Dewease ended his night with a third place finish.

Friday night at Williams Grove, Dewease made a late bid for the third spot, but wasn’t able to make his move stick, and slipped back to a sixth place finish.

“We had a decent weekend,” he said. “We should of finished a little better at Williams Grove on Friday night, but we were able to make a late bid, and just made a mistake.”
