After nearly a month off from the King of the West Series, Kyle Hirst and his Roth Motorsports team returned to action on Saturday night, and scored an eighth place finish at the Reno Tahoe Fernley Raceway in Fernley, NV.

With a very light car count on hand, Hirst timed his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No.83JR machine in ninth fastest, putting him on the front row of his heat race.

Getting the jump on Richard Brace, Jr in his heat, Hirst went on to pick up the win, and earned a spot in the Dash, where he found himself with the five pill.

Lining up in the third row of the Dash, the Sacramento, CA driver wasn’t able to make up any ground, and finished in the fifth spot, putting him in the third row for the feature event.

In the feature event, things got interesting for Hirst. Running in the fifth spot, Hirst blew through a rut in the track, and upset his machine. As the car bounced up and came down hard, Hirst got a left-rear flat, and was forced to the work area.

Getting a new tire, Hirst restarted at the back of the pack, and did what not man could do on the 3/8 mile track, and that is pass cars.

The series point leader methodically carved his way forward, and salvaged his night with a eighth place finish.

“It wasn’t the finish we had hoped for, but after going to the back we will take it,” he said. “My guys did a great job getting things fixed in the work area, and making a couple of adjustments that allowed us to move forward. The track was tough to get moving on, so to end up with an eighth place finish, we can’t hang out heads on that. It was a great night overall for Dennis and Teresa Roth, and hopefully next week Tim (Kaeding) and myself can be on the front stretch celebrating.”

Kyle and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2013.
