Felker Earns Pair of Top 10s in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Action

LEWISTOWN, Ill. (Sept. 17, 2013) – Chalk up two more top 10s for Andrew Felker, who has now recorded 30 top-10 finishes this season after another solid weekend.

“Overall it was a good weekend,” he said. “We lost some points to (Zach) Daum, but hopefully I can pick it up this weekend.”

Felker remains second in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series standings heading into Saturday’s race at Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., where he picked up his lone feature win earlier this season.

Last weekend got off to a rough start midway through his heat race on Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.

“We started seventh in a stacked heat race, but in four laps got to the lead,” he said. “However, we blew an oil line and it blew oil all over the headers and started smoking really bad so I pulled into the infield.”

That relegated Felker to a B Main, which he started on the outside of the fourth row. Felker advanced to the runner-up position to transfer to the feature, which he started 19th.

“We had a really good car early and then the track got so fast it was follow the leader on the top at the end,” he said. “Me and Zach were battling with each other, picking cars off. They worked the track right before the feature and I hopped up top and started picking them off, sliding every chance I got.”

Felker rallied to place seventh.

“I think we had a better car than that,” he said. “If we hadn’t had the problems in the heat race we would have started up there and it would have been a whole different race.”

The team headed to Spoon River Speedway on Saturday, when Felker charged from sixth to second place in his heat race.

“We had a really good car early,” he said. “The track was really hooked up. We actually went to the middle of the track and worked our way to second.”

That earned him enough points to start the feature on the outside of the front row.

“I beat Parker Price-Miller to turn one and I kinda set sail from there,” Felker said. “I think we led 10 or 12 laps. When we got to lapped traffic I was working the bottom through the first couple of lapped cars and (Christopher) Bell got us on the top. So we hopped up there and followed him.”

As the track began to change Felker got caught in traffic and dropped several positions in the final 10 laps.

“I fell back from second to about eighth in about two laps because I got hung up battling for position,” he said. “Basically, I got back down on the bottom and picked them off as they made mistakes.”

Felker rallied to place fourth, which was his 16th top-five result of the season.
