Tiner Runs Fifth at Fall Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA

In action for three night’s last week, Steven Tiner capped the busy week off with a fifth place finish at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night during the 21st Annual Fall Nationals.

With 51 cars on hand, Tiner went out late during qualifications and was able to time his STR/BR Motorsports/King Racing Products entry in third fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat.

Taking the heat win in dominating fashion, Tiner lined up fifth in the Dash, and on the extremely slick, and abrasive, surface, finished fifth, putting him in the third row for the 30-lap feature.

With the track extremely ‘rubbered up’, Tiner simply rode around for 30-laps in the fifth stop, making sure to keep his tires under him for 30-laps. When the race finally ended, Tiner crossed the stripe in the fifth spot.

In action on Friday night, Tiner missed the heat race inversion by just one spot, and lined up in the fifth spot, and was able to score a fourth place finish, putting him in the feature event.

Lining up in the eighth row on a very fast, and hooked up track, Tiner was able to work up into the top-10 as he battled a car with brake issues.

With just six laps to go, Tiner slid up off the racing surface, and decided to call it a night, and was credited with a 19th place finish.

Tiner kicked off his week piloting the Shawn Wright No. 99 machine at the Placerville Speedway for the Civil War Series finale.

Lining up in the second row of the feature event, Tiner ran inside the top-five for the first half of the race, until he slid to a stop on the turn three hill, trying to avoid a stalled car.

“It was an interesting week of racing,” Tiner said. “On Wednesday we had a really good run going in the 99 car, but we tried to avoid a wreck, and then I stalled the car trying to avoid getting into the light pole, and that sent us to the back. On Friday we were pretty good, but I lost the brakes, and once I slid off the track I just parked it. Saturday was a mess, but unfortunately everyone had to deal with the rubber, and we were fortunate enough to put our machine up front.”
