Brandon Hahn Enjoys Fast Car at Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial

WHEATLAND, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2013) – Brandon Hahn learned a couple of key lessons last weekend at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

With more than 50 cars in attendance for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Lucas Oil Speedway, Hahn and his fast hot rod picked up steam as he took advantage of valuable laps on the challenging surface.

“We had a good car,” he said. “We were fast all weekend.”

After starting and finishing third in his heat race on Friday, Hahn lined up on the outside of the front row of a B Main. He maintained one of the three transfer positions for the first half of the 12-lap consolation before a miscue spun him around.

“I could have put it into the show,” he said. “I just got over the cushion going into (turns) three and four and ended up having to stop. It was driver error.”

After losing several positions, Hahn restarted and worked his way up to a fifth-place finish to miss a transfer by only two positions.

As Saturday’s finale was postponed to Sunday because of rain, Hahn continued to take advantage of seat time around the track. He powered from seventh to fifth place in his heat race on Sunday and placed fourth in a B Main, this time missing a transfer by one spot.

“It was fast and it was kind of hard to pass,” he said. “It got wider as the night went on and the racing got better.”

Hahn used a provisional to tag the back of the field for the 30-lap feature.

“I had a really, really good car in the beginning of the race,” he said. “It was on the top and they had just reworked the race track so the top was still good and the bottom was still good.”

Hahn began to work toward the top 10 before a late-race error ended with him turned around.

“I was running 11th at one point,” he said. “I can’t put my string of good laps together. I ended up spinning out in the A Feature and had to go to the back and start over again. I went back to the top and started picking cars off.”

He rallied in the closing laps to end 16th, which marked his 21st top-20 result of the season.

Hahn is planning on returning to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., on Saturday for the NCRA event. He recorded his best finish of the year – third – at the track earlier this season.

“I think we’ll do good,” he said. “I run pretty good there and hopefully we can get a top five. I think we’ll have a top 10 car out of the box.”
